  • How do I register?

    Registration information coming soon!

  • Can my child participate in more than one program?

Absolutely! As long as the schedule lines up, your child can participate in as many programs as they’d like. You will see an option to register for multiple programs during the registration process.

  • What is a typical Nordic lesson like? What if my child needs to use the bathroom, gets hungry, gets cold, etc?

Your Nordic skier will be with the same group of coaches each week. Once they arrive at practice, they will congregate in the heated tent to put on their equipment. There will be a place for them to store snacks or a bag in the tent.

Then they’ll hit the trails while learning classic and skate techniques.

After practice, students will have snacks and hot chocolate in the heated tent.

Portable toilets are available near the heated tent.

  • What is a typical downhill lesson like? What if my child needs to use the bathroom, gets hungry, gets cold, etc?

Typical lessons will vary by program, but a few things are standard:

Every effort will be made to make sure that your child is with the same coach/instructor each week.

The bathrooms will be available at the Crysal Mountain Lodge as well as portable toilets throughout the mountain.

Students should bring money to purchase food/snack items from Crystal Mountain or pack their own lunch/snack. They can store these items in the Weldon Room at the lodge. Their instructor will guide them.

Students should be dropped off ready to ski with all of their outerwear on.

Students will have an opportunity to warm up if necessary in the heated tent at the base of the mountain or in the Weldon room at the lodge.

  • Will my child have the same coaches each week?

Yes! Every effort is made to make sure that your child has the same coach(es) each week.

  • How much experience does my child need to have on the slopes before signing up?

Experience requirements vary by program. Master the Mountain is the perfect place for skiers and snowboarders of all ability levels - even those that have never skied before.

For the rest of the programs, students should feel comfortable on blue runs and be able to load/unload the chairlift independently.

  • What equipment does my child need?

Equipment needs vary by program, but it’s an important part of the experience.

  • Can I make sure that my child is in the same ski group as his best friend?

While we will make an effort to make sure your child is with his/her friends, we typically break kids into groups by ability. Please be sure to let us know about your child’s buddy during the registration process.

  • What are the COVID protocols on the mountain this year?

Everyone’s safety is our highest priority.

There will be no masking requirements outside. Students will be asked to stay home if they are not feeling well.

  • Is my child required to be vaccinated in order to participate? Will the instructors be vaccinated?

There are no vaccination requirements at Crystal Mountain.

  • The weather is bad today. How do I find out if my child's practice is cancelled?

Your child’s coach will contact you if practice is cancelled. You can also click here to subscribe to our calendar. It will be updated regularly.

  • If there's no snow on the ground, can I assume that Nordic practices will be cancelled?

Don’t be so sure! Our Nordic coaches have been known to work magic on the trails.

If practice is cancelled, you will be hearing directly from our coaches. You can also click here to subscribe to our calendar. It will be updated regularly.

  • My child will not be at practice. Do I need to let anyone know?

We would love to know 48 hours in advance if your child will not be at practice. This allows us to modify our coaching needs in advance. We understand that last-minute conflicts can arise, and even a few minutes notice is helpful to our coaches.

Please let your coach know if your child will be missing practice - for both alpine and nordic programs.

  • What is the difference between Nordic Skiing and Cross Country Skiing? And what is Classic and Skate Skiing?

Nordic and Cross Country skiing are the same thing.

Classic and Skate Skiing are different cross country skiing techniques. Classic skiing is most likely what you’re used to seeing. Skis move forward in parallel tracks.

Skate skiing is a side-to-side motion, like a gliding duck walking over a groomed corduroy track.

Our Middle School and High School Nordic Teams will learn and practice both classic and skate skiing techniques. Equipment is provided for both.
