Nordic Rocks

Nordic Rocks is CCSC's signature community outreach program and a key part of our commitment to connecting kids with snowsports and the outdoors.

When Nordic Rocks launched in 2019, it was a pilot program serving 100 students at two Benzie County schools. The goal was simple — introduce elementary school students to the foundations of cross-country skiing and create an opportunity for them to experience the sport in their own community.

As of today, that goal remains the same, but our impact has skyrocketed. We are proud to serve more than 700 students from 12 different schools across four counties.

Through Nordic Rocks, we provide quality skis, poles, and boots, along with instruction from certified cross-country ski coaches. We are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment where kids can learn, bond with their peers, build confidence, and fall in love with the outdoors in winter.

We work with 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms and offer four sessions per season to each class. We incorporate fun skill-building games, drills, team-building activities, and, of course, post-ski hot chocolate!

Nordic Rocks is a unique program that exposes kids to the magic of nature in their very own backyard. It gives them the opportunity to build self-confidence, share a memorable experience with their classmates, appreciate our Michigan winters, and discover the transformative sport of cross-country skiing.

Nordic Rocks is one of the many programs offered by Crystal Community Ski Club (CCSC). CCSC provides opportunities for kids across a wide range of snowsports experiences, from learning their first turns to Nordic skiing, Alpine racing, freestyle, community outreach, and more.
